In the ever fast forward mode of the Manhattan real estate industry how quickly can a broker make a business connection? According to Laurence Ross, a senior executive broker at Besen & Associates, it should only take three minutes.

To assist professionals in the real estate industry to network with other professionals, Ross, along with co-founders David Kahane, Oren Klein and Ori Klein, created the RE Speed Network. It is much like speed dating but based on a business level and geared to the real estate industry.

Though other networking events occur, Ross feels that they tend to be to broad based and not designed for the real estate industry alone. An attendee of a networking event may end up talking and spending too much time with one person before realizing that it may be someone who cannot help you at the particular point you are at in your career. Thus time is wasted and another opportunity may have been lost.

The RE Speed Network events are a mix of 60-80 industry insiders. They each have three minutes to exchange business cards and discuss possible partnerships before moving onto the next person. Ross and his co-founders maintain a controlled environment at the RE Speed Networking events by bringing in professionals from different areas in the industry including brokers, lenders and investors.

There have been four such RE Speed Network events held in Manhattan and Ross plans to take the events to other locations such as San Francisco, Philadelphia and the outer boroughs of NYC.
