Mamaroneck

From waterfront estates to traditional family neighborhoods, Mamaroneck is rich in diversity. There are homes to fit every price range from charming starter homes in fine suburban neighborhoods to the most elegant Victorian estate overlooking Long Island Sound. Mamaroneck's location, just 23 miles from New York City, makes it an ideal address for commuters.

A busy downtown area, just off the harbor, provides extensive shopping from local hardware and grocery stores to quaint specialty shops and charming eateries. Six miles of Long Island Sound shoreline, excellent harbor facilities, superior schools and outstanding recreation facilities make Mamaroneck a wonderful place to live.

Schools
Approximately 4,000 students are enrolled in the Mamaroneck Union Free School District. An exemplary administration and teaching staff provide a challenging curriculum to four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. The broad curriculum includes advanced placement courses and special education. Approximately 1,000 students from the eastern portion of Mamaroneck and the western portion of Rye are served by the Rye Neck Union Free School District.

Arts and Recreation
Mamaroneck residents enjoy many forms of recreation, with most of the facilities co-sponsored by the Village of Mamaroneck and the Town of Mamaroneck. There is an indoor/outdoor Olympic-size pool offering various swimming programs, an indoor ice skating rink, a rollerblading rink, and organized programs for the young and old including baseball, soccer, tennis, paddle tennis, and football.

The scenic harbor offers a fishing pier as well as mooring and docking facilities for 400 boats. Many beautiful parks throughout the village, most notably Harbor Island Park, sponsor special events such as carnivals and concerts throughout the summer months. Several private clubs throughout the area offer yachting, swimming, tennis and golf. The popular Emelin Theater For The Performing Arts sponsors several professional stage productions each year drawing audiences from all over.

My wife and I rent a place in Mamaroneck for $1,300 a month. It's right across the street from Harbor Island Park, which is right on the sound and contains massive amounts of open green space. The neighborhood is full of joggers, kids on bikes, more joggers, and activity of all kinds.

I'd recommend anybody, families, college kids like me, older folks, find a place in Mamaroneck. The whole place feels very welcoming and nice, with a quaint downtown, not scary and frantic like some places in Westchester. Not that I have anything against Westchester except for every last one of the motorists.
